To any person who found themselves in the loop of mental illness, Unstable reminds us that we...
“Through hardships, I emerge bolder, for nothing can destroy this warrior soldier.”
We need to be fearless in life and trust ourselves in whatever we do. The reason is that in all battles we are supposed to fight, we must internalise the fact that we can fight the battles and win them. We should avoid negative thoughts, believe in ourselves, live to grow rather than impress others, and dream big. In Lisa McCarthy's 'Inspiring Book of Poems, Dreams and Stories,' she trains readers on the importance of being who we are, dreaming to achieve big things and having faith in God.
The book speaks about faith, resilience, knowing our worth, and living our identity. Being a Christian, I loved reading it since it provides a lot of lessons that can be related to the Bible. In particular, the poem called 'Warrior Soldier' made me recall Ephesians 6:11, which urges us to be strong and have faith since God has a predetermined time when we are on the Earth. In addition, the poem 'The Life with Gratitude and Joy' made me reflect on 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which instructs Christian believers like me to be thankful under all circumstances. I found the book immensely helpful as a Christian since it led me to consider the life I am living with God.
I enjoyed the book because it increased my faith in God after reading it. I lost my dad in February 2024, and after reading the poem 'Warrior Soldier,' where Lisa wrote 'Through hardships, I emerge bolder, for nothing can destroy this warrior soldier,' I felt very encouraged because in Isaiah 41:10, God said, 'So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.' This was a pep talk to me during hard moments as I was reminded that God has my back all the time. The book also made me learn how to stand up in hard times. We must be ourselves in a world that is full of comparison and peer pressure from friends and people we work with, so that we can have true freedom, as we are not under the burden of society. An example is Romans 12:2, where we are not supposed to go out of our way to impress society by altering our identity. That was one of the biggest lessons in my life for all people who are attempting to fit in and act like they are not who they are.
The only aspect that I did not like was that it repeats some of the topics and lessons. In the poem 'Warrior Soldier,' the author quotes, 'Through hardships, I will come out bolder, nothing will destroy this warrior soldier.' Similarly, in the poem 'I am enough,' Lisa wrote that 'I am strong, I am whole, I am worthy as I am.' To me, the messages were close and repetitive to each other; however, it did not kill the original message, faith in God.
Lastly, the book helped me to become stronger in my personal life. It is an excellent book for those who want to learn about faith or people who are experiencing bad times. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars as it made me confident and stronger in believing God, especially after the loss of my dad. I would recommend it to any person in a difficult situation and to anyone who desires to have poems that would boost their faith.
