“LaTrice explains that a confident person is always humble, conscious of himself, does not bring anyone down, and is willing to learn because no one is ever aware of everything.”
No one is born with confidence; you have to make it yourself. A person with confidence does not have to be afraid of anyone, as only trusting yourself in the worst moments will make your self-esteem increase. Most people often confuse confidence for arrogance, a distinction which is very large. Thus, in 'BECOMING UNSTOPPABLE: Confidence Without Apology,' LaTrice Ray explains that a confident person is always humble, conscious of himself, does not bring anyone down, and is willing to learn because no one is ever aware of everything. Ray also outlines the characteristics of the arrogant individual, which are the result of a sense of insecurity. A person of arrogance always believes that he or she is more powerful and attempts to destroy others to make them feel inferior.
LaTrice Ray's book is completely focused on building confidence, self-esteem, understanding your value, and developing a positive voice inside. Being a university student, I enjoyed the way she told me that I needed to believe in my abilities. Rather than saying, 'I am bad at this subject,' say, 'I am getting better every day.' Chapter 5 explores the power of our words, that is, whatever we say can change a person's life; so, we must always say good things. Ray informs readers like me and you that confidence does not mean one is perfect but rather owning your strengths and working on your weaknesses. She gives the example of Michael Jordan on page 23. She says that he was cut from his high school team, but Michael did not give up and instead worked hard and is a legendary baller today. That demonstrates the strength of will: nothing is impossible with absolute determination.
This book has lots of positive motivation, and some of it resonated with me, such as always being positive. As an illustration, when you are studying for an exam, and you say I will score high in this and be the best among my peers, then the words improve your spirits. This is a winner's perspective. Moreover, on page 30, she explains failure as a steppingstone to success, that is, it is not the end of the road. She also argued that every successful person you know has a story of failure before success, and we should see failure as the story that we will tell tomorrow as we are winning, but not to feel bad about, as she writes on page 15. On page 49, she differentiates between fixed vs. growth mindset, and how a fixed mindset is a barrier to growth, whereas a growth mindset is growth fuel.
Nevertheless, I did not like that pages 105 to 116 are blank; there is nothing written on them. I believe that there should be some difference between the e-copy and the physical copy since I would not be able to write on those blank pages unless it were the physical book. However, it did not affect my reading process. This is the only flaw I observed; otherwise, this is a lovely book which completely helped me as a student and made me feel more confident. I would rate it 3 out of 5 stars. It is a valuable piece filled with encouraging words, and I would recommend it to any person who wants a book that can make them confident.
